How to brush your pet’s teeth

Brushing your pet’s teeth is the best way to reduce plaque and tartar.  Besides the obvious benefit of  brushing, you will also be examining your pet’s teeth and gums on a regular basis.  The most common oral problem we see is periodontal disease, which is an infection below the gum that leads to pain, gum and bone loss, and potential infection spreading to vital organs throughout the body.  Halitosis, or bad breath, is often the first sign of periodontal disease.  Once this or any other sign of periodontal disease is present, a professional oral evaluation and tooth cleaning under anesthesia is needed to prevent progression of disease.  In our experience, untreated periodontal disease causes more discomfort and decreased quality of life than any other disease!
